As the videogames industry shuffles inexorable towards the lucrative Christmas holiday season, we’re already starting to see a substantial rise in not only the quantity of titles hitting store shelves, but more importantly, the quality.

October 2009 proved to be one of the most anticipated months on the gaming calendar for PlayStation 3 owners this year, thanks in no small part to a certain brash treasure hunter by the name of Nathan Drake. Indeed, while last month presented a number of healthy offerings worthy of praise - Tekken 6, Borderlands and Trine among others - it was pretty much a given that we’d plump for Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Garnering universal praise from critics and fans alike, Among Thieves proved a roaring success, from its compelling narrative, action-packed gameplay to its stellar multiplayer component and jaw-dropping visuals. Needless to say, we wasted no time extolling the virtues of this mammoth sequel in our review, commenting:

With Among Thieves, Naughty Dog has shattered the proverbial bar it created with the 2007 original. This is quite possibly the best game to have graced the PS3, and without a doubt one of the greatest titles ever conceived.”

Take a butcher’s at what some of our readers had to say on Uncharted 2 below:

That was good timing, I've literally just finished the game not 15 minutes ago. Uncharted 2 definitely has to be game of the year for me and fully deserves PSU's 10 out of 10 rating. It is an absolute Masterpiece of a game! I cannot fault this game in any way, the graphics are stunning, the storyline is very well thought out, the game play is fantastic, you just can't put this game down from start to finish. I'm simply amazed at how long the game is too, just when you think the game might be reaching the end theres another whole new level to play and my god, how stunning is Shambhala when you see it for the first time! If you own a ps3 then you must simply must buy a copy of this game, it is truly epic!” – Chilledbreeze7

I agree with the Review. I would have gave this game a 10 if it didn’t take so many bullets to kill players on Team Deathmatch online. The story mode is unbelievable, one of the best graphics I’ve seen so far. I would put this in one of my Best top 10 games ever.” – Regissreg

Yep, best game of the year... I’m sure about that” – Kamahl

This game is truly 10 out of 10 material, by far the best adventure game I've ever played.” – FonFahbre

Tune in again this time next month, where we'll be awarding yet another title the crown for Game of the Month. In the meantime, if you happen to disagree with our choice for October, be sure to let us know what title you feel deserves the accolade in the comments section below.

Uncharted was legendary dont get me wrong but it hasn't sucked me in like Demons Souls has.  As soon as I finished Uncharted I was straight back to Demons Souls and haven't left since.  I doubt MW2 is even going to pull me away from it for long and im a big COD player!  Nice one to Uncharted but the decision for me is debateable.

All right you dead eaters, heres the scoop.:

Uncharted 2 is Hands down, the most entertaining digital  cinima event that I have ever watched. Oh wait, I can MOVE drake... aint this a movie? Wait, its a GAME?!?!

Yeah that was my wife watching me play it ... She's hooked. Now I hope I can get the controller back.

Seriusly, as a non gamer she was hooked to every CG scene (with I must say was all in game) for the naritive, and the snazzy drake one liners. She laughed her butt off when she heard Clowie say "Chivelry still exists, you just have to ask for it..."  All and all a really fun game.

Like with killzone two wien it first came out, the bar has been reset again.

*Looks over at the Wii and the 360*

@11 I think we can all agree that despite the fact that the Wii is the best selling system among the 3, real game enthusiasts don't consider it a serious system.

I just picked up the first one a few weeks ago and I love it! Can't wait to play among thieves, but I'll wait until the price drops. I don't pay full price for video games...it just isn't that serious

While I love Uncharted 2 and I think this was the obvious pick, I'm a little disheartened that the 2nd best game of the month, Demon's Souls, didn't even get an honorable mention in this column, yet Trine did :(

Nope, you picked a great game for the Game of the Month. I have nothing bad to say about the game, which means there's nothing but good things to say. :D

I'm on my third play through (on Crushing this time) and I'm STILL watching some of the cutscenes because they're so incredibly awesome.

This is GOTY hands down. I know we still have MW2 coming but I just don't see how any other game this year can match what Naughty Dog has done.

I think this game is the Game of the Month every month, at least until Gow3 comes out. Game of the Month, Game of the Year, Game of the decade, whatever you wanna say, its with out a doubt the best game Ive ever played.

Got to admit Sony  has lifted the bar way above all other entertainment units. Like some1 else mentioned Killzone 2 set the bar and Uncharted 2 has gone even further, so what will next year bring ( Heavy Rain, GOW3, GT5, etc...) there is absolutely nothing any other entertainment unit can do to catch up.

Naughty Dog & Sony, Thank You.

Uncharted 2 is absolutely the best game I've ever played in the PS3. The graphics are so real one can almost smell the stench in wartorn Nepal and frolic in the snow in Tibet. Heck, my nieces are still arguing who between Chloe and Elena is the most beautiful girl for Drake. The gameplay is superb, provoding less puzzles and more thrill-a-minute gunfights.

I could have finished the game earlier, but I wanted to savor every chapter. Sometimes, I would intentionally pause the game to marvel at the fantastic graphics.

Congratulations Naughty Dog. What can I say except "bow-wow-WOW!"

I like uncharted 1 & 2, dont get me wrong, but I like borderlands more. Sure the graphics arent as nice, the ps3 had some issues (I have yet to experience any but whatever). The thing is Borderlands was completely innovative and new. THe games got a kabillion guns for cryin out loud!

Yeah, it's a no-brainer for October... Uncharted 2 is possibly the best game in the past few YEARS, let alone October.  I must mention though that Brutal Legend turned out to surprise me.  I thought it looked completely stupid, but just checking out the demo even, really intrigued me and it has turned out to be a very enjoyable experience.  Still, nothing beats Uncharted 2 and honestly, I've never seen a game on any other platform that can compete with the likes of the Uncharted series, Ratchet & Clank PS3 games and Metal Gear Solid on the PS3.  I've really never seen anything, even on PC that can compare with those titles in my mind.
